Steelers brush off Edinburgh, 5-2

Two goals from John Armstrong helped the Steelers to a comfortable 5-2 home victory over the Edinburgh Capitals on Wednesday evening.

The Capitals withheld the Steelers first period dominance before falling behind to three unanswered second period goals.

Edinburgh then fought back with two powerplay strikes before Ratchuk and Armstrong wrapped up the victory with third period goals.

Despite outshooting the Capitals 13-8 in the first period the game remained scores after the first 20 minutes

The Steelers broke the Cap’s down in the middle period and scored three goals that looked like had secured the victory and the valuable 2 points.

First with hertz off for Boarding at 26.28 the Steelers went on the power-play looking for the all important first goal.

Not for the first time Mathieu Roy delivered breaking down the left wing and firing home at 26.08 (assisted O’Connor and Dowd)

At 28.51 the Steelers made it 2-0 with John Armstrong converting (assisted by O’Connor and J. Phillips)

At 33.01 Ben O’Connor collected his 3rd straight assist as he and Mathieu Roy combined to set up Colton Fretter for the Steelers 3rd goal.

The Capitals though weren’t done and hit back with two of their own, both on the power-play.

With Fitzgerald off for tripping, Hertl scored at 34.52 to bring the score back to 3-1.

In the final period Davey Phillips penalty for Boarding was punished when DOrazio scored to narrow the Steelers advantage to just 1 goal.

Mike Ratchuk scored his 4th goal in 7 games to ease any Steelers concern at 51.36

As the Cap’s pushed in the final minutes John Armstrong wrapped up the scoring with his second of the night into the empty net

For his 2 goal performance John Armstrong was named the Steelers man of the match and produced his own excellent “Eddy”
