Steel goes vertical on Cedar Park Center

CEDAR PARK, Texas — The City of Cedar Park and Officials from the Cedar Park Center and the Texas Stars joined forces on Monday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. to witness the erection of the first steel beams for the Cedar Park Center. Using a massive crane, crews lifted columns from 45’ to 60’ into place to set the framework for the Center’s walls. In total, over 2 million pounds of steel will be installed.

Once complete, the 181,000 sq. ft. Center will be a multi-use facility, with 6,800 seats for hockey and 8,700 for concerts and other events. The Cedar Park Center will be the home of the Texas Stars Hockey club, who are scheduled to play in the American Hockey League (AHL) and will be the primary development affiliate for the Dallas Stars. The City of Cedar Park owns the facility, with management being handled by the Hicks Sports Group, owner of the Texas Stars. This is the first step in going vertical and is a significant milestone in the project. As Cedar Park Mayor Bob Lemon pointed out prior to the event.
“Each steel beam that’s raised stands as testament to the skills and determination of our project team who are working together to build a first-class facility on time and on budget,” Lemon said. Hunt Construction broke ground on the Center back in June and is currently on schedule, with plans to open the Cedar Park Center to the public in September 2009.
“The raising of steel is a real point of pride for the Cedar Park community, and a major milestone for Cedar Park Center,” Cedar Park City Councilmember Matt Powell said. “In less than a year, Cedar Park will be hosting major concerts, sports, and family shows in a truly spectacular setting. Watching our building ‘go vertical’ is yet another reminder of what this arena will mean to the quality of life in Central Texas.”
