Stars win seventh straight

In Dallas, the Stars won their seventh straight game on Monday night to tie a team record. They downed the Arizona Coyotes, 4-1.

Jamie Benn hit for a pair of goals late in the game and had three points on the night.

Braden Holtby made 18 saves in the Stars win.

“It shows we’re doing something right around here right now, we’re playing some good hockey,” Benn said. “Even when we have some tough periods, we’re finding ways to win. Everyone’s contributing and, top to bottom, it’s just good team efforts.”

Dallas improved to 13-7-2.

“It was a great third period,” Dallas head coach Rick Bowness said. “We had a number of guys in there coughing, hacking, but they sucked it up big time in the third period and we went to work. We’ll take that one for sure.”

Shayne Gostisbehere scored the lone Coyotes goal.

“I thought we played a good first two periods, it got a little squirrelly early in the third and we weathered it, but things happen in this league, and they’re good team over there,” Gostisbehere said. “`Wedgey’ was giving us a chance to win, and we let him down.”

Arizona dropped to 5-18-2.

Roope Hintz and Jacob Peterson added single markers for Dallas.

“He’s got a knack for that, going to the net,”  Bowness said of Peterson. “He’s hanging around the net, he takes the puck behind the net, and he’s not afraid to go into the heavy area.”

Scott Wedgewood made 24 saves in the Arizona loss.

“Scoring chance in our slot, we’re right there but we don’t have the urgency to defend and be tough in front of the net,” Coyotes head coach Andre Tourigny said.
