Stars win fifth straight

A free for all in the third period in Dallas, ended with the Stars edging out the Arizona Coyotes, 5-4.

Dallas struck for four goals in the third period and the Coyotes kicked in two but ended up surr4dnering the game-winner in the 12-minute mark by Tyler Seguin.

The Stars improved to 28-21-4 on the strength of their fifth straight win.

“It’s believing in the system, getting confidence and going into third periods finding ways to win hockey games in all kinds of different ways,” Jamie Benn said.

Roope Hintz, John Klingberg, Radek Faksa and Mattias Janmark also scored for the Stars.

“The power play came through, the penalty kill came through, and there’s a lot of positives to build on,” Stars head coach Jim Montgomery said after the Stars struck early and often in the third period including two power play goals.

Ben Bishop made 38 saves to get the win.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Kevin Connauton, Vinnie Hinostroza and Alex Galchenyuk struck for the Coyotes in the loss.

“We worked hard and competed and did our best to give ourselves a chance to win the game,” Arizona forward Lawson Crouse said. “But at the end of the day, they got that clutch goal there at the end that determined the outcome.”

Arizona dropped to 23-24-5.

“You’d rather win the hockey game than breaking records,” Ekman-Larsson said. “It means a lot to me, that I’ve been able to score a lot of goals for this organization, and hopefully I have a lot more in me.”

Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves in the loss.

“We’ve got to realize it’s (essentially) playoff hockey right now, and you’ve got to find a way to hang around the games,” Ekman-Larsson said.
