In St Louis, the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves in a 4-1 over the Blues on Monday night.
“As a backup, you’ve got to prepare in case of anything like this,” Wedgewood said. “I took my nap, I ate my pregame meal. You’ve got to be ready.”
After a scoreless first period, Wyatt Johnston put the Stars up, 1-0, in the second period
Ty Dellandrea pushed the Dallas lead to 2-0 early in the third period.
Dallas improved to 13-6-4.
“This was a playoff-type game for both teams,” Stars coach Peter DeBoer said.
St Louis got some life when Brandon Saad scored to make it 2-1.
“It was a pretty tight-checking hockey game,” Saad said. “They have a good team over there, and for the most part I thought we managed the game pretty well. But obviously, we need to create a little bit more action. Their goalie made some good saves that we could have found the back of the net with. They capitalized and we didn’t tonight.”
Jason Robertson helped Dallas reclaim the two-goal lead with a strike in the third. He now has a 16-game point streak.
“I told him I’ve seen the goal-scoring ability, so the shot should impress the [heck] out of me, but it doesn’t,” DeBoer said. “The blocked shot impresses the [heck] out of me. That’s what I liked.”
St Louis dropped to 11-11-0.
“I thought we played a pretty solid first period. Second period, I thought we were good,” St. Louis coach Craig Berube said. “Third period, not as good. We need more of an attack mentality in the third period.”
Miro Heiskanen hit for an empty-net goal with 2:35 left in the game for the 4-1 final.
Jordan Binnington made 20 saves in the Blues loss.
