Stars top IceHogs 3-2 in OT, take 2-0 series lead

CEDAR PARK, Texas — Curtis McKenzie scored a power play goal at the 10:46 mark of the first overtime to lead the Texas Stars to a 3-2 over the Rockford IceHogs. The win gives the Stars a 2-0 lead going into Rockford.

It was the 6th overtime game of the playoffs for Texas and their 34th overtime game of the season. Texas has now won six straight playoff games.

Texas came out of the gate slow in the first period, giving up an easy goal to John Hayden, who was left all alone in front of Mike McKenna.

The second period has been Rockford’s best throughout the playoffs, but the Stars turned the tide, scoring two goals to take a 2-1 lead. Jason Dickinson scored at 2:45 of the second and Brent Regner blasted home a power play goal just four minutes later.

Rockford’s Chris DiDomenico, who has been on a torrid point pace throughout the playoffs, tied the game at two with a Rockford power play goal.. Neither team could find the net in a penalty filled third period, sending the game into overtime.

Rockford was 1-5 and Texas was 1-7 on the power play.

The teams heas to Rockford for the next three games beginning on May 22nd.
