CEDAR PARK, Texas — Despite being out-slugged by the Heat, Gavin Bayreuther’s goal with 5:42 remaining in the second period led the Stars to a 4-3 win. The game was played in front of 6863 standing room only fans.
Spencer Foo opened the scoring in the first period. It looked like the Heat would take the 1-0 lead going into intermission, but a last minute power play goal by Brent Regner tied the score.
The teams traded goals in the second period. Morgan Klimchuk scored a little over a minute into the period. But Colin Markison tied it at two just sixteen seconds later. The Stars took their first lead of the game on a Denis Gurianov goal. Heat goaltender Jon gillies appeared to have stopped the puck with the right pad, but it trickled out and barely across the goal line.
Brett Pollock knotted the game up at three, but Julius Honka set up Bayreuther with a nifty pass for the four-on-four game winner. Bayreuther was named first Star of the Game.

The game at times resembled mixed martial arts rather than hockey. There were several high-sticking and roughing penalties in the first two period and lots of scrums. The officials seemed to throw away the rule book in the third period which was extremely rough. There were numerous stoppages for altercations, but few penalties and no goals.
The game ended with the Heat’s Andrew Mangiapane taking a shot after the buzzer and then throwing a punch at Samuel Laberge.
The win moved the Stars back into second place in the Pacific Division.
