SAN ANTONIO – Matej Stransky scored with 12.8 seconds left in regulation lifting the Texas Stars (15-10-1-1) to a 5-4 win over the San Antonio Rampage (12-15-2-0) at the AT&T Center.
Following a back-and-forth first period, the Rampage left the ice with a 2-1 advantage. Texas opened the scoring just 1:16 into the game when Caleb Herbert re-directed Julius Honka’s point shot past Spencer Martin. The Rampage responded with consecutive goals 4:15 apart as Jim O’Brien and Mike Sislo scored at 3:54 and 8:09 respectively, giving San Antonio the lead. The goal marked Sislo’s 100th as a professional.
Texas wasted little time taking the lead back in the second period with a pair of goals from Travis Morin at 2:00 on the power play and Herbert’s second tally of the night at 3:59. Gemel Smith ended Martin’s night at 11:05 of the period when he snapped a shot through Martin’s pads giving the Stars a 4-2 edge after 40 minutes. Goaltender Jeremy Smith replaced Martin between the pipes.
The Rampage fought back with a pair of goals in the third period to even things at 4-4 before Stransky’s winner. Duncan Siemens’ shot from the high slot slipped through Stars goalie Landon Bow at 3:43 to pull the Rampage to within one before Rocco Grimaldi tied the game with 2:42 remaining in regulation knocking Cody Corbett’s rebound behind Bow into the net.
