Stars stay unbeaten with win over Detroit

In Dallas, the Stars continued their rampage through their early schedule on Thursday night with a 7-3 drubbing of the Detroit red Wings.

The picture is to starting to come into focus, the Stars are a pretty decent hockey team.

Jake Oettinger got the start for Dallas, his first, and made 20 saves for his first NHL win.

“This means everything to me,” Oettinger said. “I’ve obviously been around this group for a long time, so getting an opportunity to come in and help out is a very special moment.”

Joe Pavelski got the offense rolling just past the midway point of the first period.

Jamie Oleksiak,  Andrew Cogliano  and Denis Gurianov also scored early to give the Stars a 4-1 lead.

Valtteri Filppula interrupted the Dallas offense with an impertinent score that just seemed to annoy the opposition; his goal made the count 2-1 in Dallas’ favor.

“I think we took a real step back on this trip,” Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill said. “It isn’t just results, we didn’t play good hockey. We’ve got to find a way to regroup because we need a lot of guys to play way better than this.”

Detroit pulled within 4-3 with goals from Tyler Bertuzzi (power-play) and Danny DeKeyser.

“We finally got one on the power play and we got within 4-3, but then it got away from us again,” the Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin said. “We can’t continue to let two points get away from us every night.”

Ty Dellandrea stopped the Detroit run with his first NHL goal to make it 5-3.

“That’s Jake’s first win of many in his career and Ty’s first goal of many in his career,” Stars head coach Rick Bowness said. “It’s nice they got them on the same night because they are both a huge part of this organization going forward.”

Two late scores from Justin Dowling (empty net) and John Klingberg pushed the final tally to 7-3.

Jonathan Bernier got the start for Detroit and yielded allowed three goals with 16 saves before leaving the match in the second intermission for injury..

Thomas Greiss finished up with six saves in the third period.
