In Elmont, Dallas’ Jason Robertson scored to give the Stars a 1-0 lead on Tuesday night over the Islanders.
The game ended with Robertson getting credit for the deciding goal on penalties for a 2-1 win.
Jake Oettinger made 27 saves through extra time for the win, he stopped all three skaters in the skills portion of the evening’s affairs.
“I think we needed that,” Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. “I think Jake needed it. I think our group needed it. [Robertson], obviously, big goal in regulation [and] big goal in the shootout. He’s done it all year for us, too. It was an important two points.”
The Stars improved to 25-11-6.
“[I] just knew it was going to be a tight game,” Oettinger said. “Obviously, they have a great goalie over there, and he’s not going to give up any easy ones. It’s going to be a tight game. So, I get chances every night to make big saves, and I did that.”
Anders Lee s tied the game in the first period with a power play goal.
“Good effort,” New York coach Lane Lambert said. “Really good effort. Deserve better. Didn’t get it so we just have to move on to the next game.”
The Isles dropped to 22-17-3, and have lost three straight.
“The unit we had, we thought we had good looks,” New York’s Brock Nelson said. “Obviously, we had a tough stretch here. We weren’t getting opportunities to go in, so to come out and get that one to tie it up, it’s a big one. You want to win the special teams every night. Power play wants to contribute with at least momentum, but you want to contribute on the score sheet for sure.”
Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves in the Islanders loss.
