DALLAS – Four unanswered goals over the second and third periods sent the Stars to a convincing 6-1 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.
The outburst by the Stars put pressure on the Canucks and distance between the two clubs in what had been a back forth affair.
Jamie Benn struck twice for Dallas and added an assist in the win.
“It’s felt great,” Stars defenseman Taylor Fedun said. “We’re doing a lot of things together out there, finding different ways to win games and ultimately doing a good job at keeping the puck out of our net.
“Both of our goaltenders have been superb for us here, and our team game has really taken strides in the right direction. We’re a confident bunch when we’re playing this way.”
Ben Bishop made 32 saves to get the win.
“I’m just trying to continue to do the right things,” Benn said. “You get your bounces some nights, and sometimes you don’t.”
Bishop’s only blemish was a breakaway goal goal by Bo Horvat in the second period after the Stars had taken a 2-0 lead.
Miro Heiskanen, Justin Dowling and Corey Perry had multi point nights with a goal apiece and assists.
After the Stars took the 2-0 lead with the second goal coming on the power play, the Canucks responded with life in their game on Horvat’s goal, but Fedun scored to make 3-1 shortly after that goal and the game was over by that point.
“I think a big part of it is just finishing,” Fedun said. “In some of those earlier games we were getting the looks, but they weren’t going in. But we kept working at it, stuck with it, and we’re starting to see the fruits of our labor here.”
The Stars are 11-1-1 in their last 13 games.
“It’s one of those things that you just have to keep going with it and hopefully things work out,” Dowling said. “If you work hard, do things right and don’t get too down on yourself, things are going to turn around for you. I’ve scored goals before, and once one goes in, the ball starts rolling a little bit for me and you just gain confidence.”
The Canucks dropped to 10-8-4.
“We obviously didn’t have our game tonight,” Horvat said. “It’s a long road trip, and that’s not the way we wanted to start this one off.”

Jacob Markstrom made 25 saves in the loss and was left to hang in the breeze as the defense was caught standing around for at least three of the goals.
“We wanted to play a better game, and obviously goaltending’s a big part of that too,” Markstrom said. “You’re not going to win many games when you let six goals in. It’s pretty obvious when we’re on our game or not.”
