Stars rally with power play for 2-1 win over Ducks

On Friday, the Anaheim Ducks had a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes but let the Dallas Stars off the hook in a 2-1 loss.

Devin Shore and Jamie Benn rallied the Stars to the win with third period goals.

“It was huge,” Benn said of his power play goal. “We stuck with our game and found a way to draw a couple penalties with some hard work.”

Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves to pick up the win as the Stars improved to 38-24-6.

“Every game is probably going to feel and look like that, right now, for the rest of the year. It’s a demanding time for everybody right now,” Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock said after the win.

Ryan Getzlaf scored the lone goal for the Ducks in the opening frame.

Anaheim’s power play had been humming along with 26 straight kills but surrendered two in the third period.

“It hurts having those two penalty-kill goals. It’s just one of those things where we have to be a little smarter,” the Ducks’ Brandon Montour said. “Going into the period 1-0, anything can really happen. They put pressure, you have to give it to them, but for us it was one of those things where a couple plays hurt us and we got the tough end.”

Ryan Miller made 35 saves in taking the loss.

“They brought a pretty good push there (in the second period),” Montour said. “I thought we stuck together. A lot of their chances were from the outside. … [Miller] stood tall and we helped him out as much as we could.”
