DALLAS – Tyler Seguin scored a double on Wednesday night and had three points in the Stars win over the Arizona Coyotes.
The Coyotes held a 2-0 lead in the first period but were unable to hold the advantage.
“It’s been muck and sometimes you can call it bad bounces, sometimes you can call it hot goalies, but tonight we really talked about no excuses,” Seguin said. “Let’s not leave here saying we hit a hot goalie or that we deserved to win. We had to execute and get the job down and stop this from going downhill. Played good in Vegas (in a 3-2 shootout win Saturday), played good enough to win tonight, now we’re on a roll.”
The win was needed by Dallas as they had gone 1-3-3 in their last seven games, and things were getting tense.
Jake Oettinger settled down after surrendering the two goals in the first period, and made 18 saves in the Stars win.
Dallas improved to 32-16-13.
Barrett Hayton and Clayton Keller were the Arizona strikers for the two0goal lead.
“We worked really hard,” Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny told the Coyotes website. “The guys competed, they never quit. I’m really proud of that, there’s no doubt about it.”
The Coyotes dropped to 21-31-9.
Roope Hintz scored for Dallas with 1:17 left in the first period to get the Stars on the board and trim the Coyotes lead to 2-1.
Seguin scored off a power play for a 2-2 tie with 1:50 gone in the middle frame to send the game to the third period, tied.
Miro Heiskanen scored with just under five minutes gone in the third period to give Dallas a 3-2 lead.
“You can’t really think about that, what’s the score or are you down or up,” Heiskanen said. “You just have to play our game and try to score a goal. You can’t really think about, we’re down 2-0 and now I start to do something else. Just stick to the plan.”
Seguin’s second of the game was a shorthanded strike at 16:12 for the 4-2 final.
Connor Ingram made 37 saves in the Coyotes loss.
“I thought we had a good push there in the first, and kind of got away from it in the second,” Keller told the Coyotes website. “They’re a very good team. They’re fast. They always seem to know where each other are. They throw a lot of pucks at the net and make it tough in our defensive zone.”
