Stars need OT to get past Detroit

In Dallas, the Stars needed an overtime goal Jason Dickinson to get past a pesky Detroit Red Wings team, 2-1, on Tuesday night.

Dickinson scored at 1:32 of the extra session.

“Sometimes you get lucky and get one to go in,” Dickinson said. “There’s more space out there, so you get more chances, but it can go either way. I got absolutely burned by [Anthony] Mantha to start the 3-on-3 and that could have been the game.”

Anton Khudobin made 20 saves to get the win for Dallas.

“There are nights you just have to dig down and find a way to win a hockey game,” Stars head coach Rick Bowness said. “We’re playing so many games in a condensed schedule and you just have to get it done. That’s our approach.”

Vladislav Namestnikov gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lad with their only goal.

“If we can play like that on a consistent basis we’re going to give ourselves a chance to win most games,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “If you play like we did (Sunday) against [the] Chicago [Blackhawks, a 6-2 loss], you don’t even give yourself a chance.”

John Klingberg got the Stars even at 1-1 with a second period goal that held up through the rest of regulation.

“I don’t think my job is to sit back and wait for the game to come to me,” Klingberg said. “I wasn’t overly happy with our game tonight. We got the two points, but we have a higher standard and we need the intensity to ramp up when we play them again [Thursday].”Thomas Greiss made 20 saves in the loss.

“I had plenty of opportunities to score, but that’s how hockey goes,” Namestnikov said. “I’m glad to get my first one for the Red Wings, but it would have been nice to get the win.”
