Stars maintain pressure in West

In Chicago, the Dallas Stars’ Jason Robertson hit for a double on Sunday in a 6-4 win over the Blackhawks.

The victory helped the Stars push up the ladder in the Western Conference race for a wild card spot.

Jake Oettinger made 36 saves in the Dallas win.

Roope Hintz struck once and had three points on the night.

“Yeah, that was a great win for us today,” Hintz said. “Obviously, yesterday we didn’t play very well, so it was a huge, huge comeback for us today, and yeah, it was nice to play, and it was clicking.”

Chicago dropped to 24-37-11, and has lost seven straight.

“Overall, I thought we competed much better,” Blackhawks coach Derek King said. “Happy with the way we competed. We had some chances, we just couldn’t score. I’m sure we could have used a couple of stops here and there. I’m sure the goalies feel the same way. I’ll never throw goalies or anything (under the bus). We need to be better in front of them, I guess, and clean up some of the mess.

“We needed something to change, so that’s why I changed (goalies). A little shaky, that’s all.”

Jamie Benn staked the Stars to a 1-0 lad in the game, and Chicago replied with goals from Philipp Kurashev and Jonathan Toews for a 2-1 lead.

Joe Pavelski (power play) and Hintz scored for a 3-2 advantage to Dallas.

“We had a lot of good stuff going,” Pavelski said. “There’s been stretches in the last month where we’ve had a lot of looks, me especially at times, and it hasn’t gone in. When it starts going in, we had a lot of looks tonight. We were finishing well tonight and had confidence.”

Boris Katchouk tied 3-3 for Chicago, but Dallas scored three straight for a 6-3 lead.

Robertson scored his pair for a 5-3 lead, and Tyler Seguin scored for the 6-3 score.

“Definitely disappointing,” Chicago’s Patrick Kane said. “I think we’re all competitors and we want to finish out the season strong. Even though we’re out of the playoffs, just try to come in with an open mindset and compete every night. For the most part, I thought we played OK tonight. Just a couple breakdowns.

“I think there’s always a reason to play and be competitive. You’re always playing for something, pride or creating a good impression for yourself personally and for this group we have. We can take that and try to keep building on it, but it would definitely be nice to mix in a win here”

Chicago’s Kirby Dach  scored for the 6-3 final.

Kevin Lankinen got the start for the Blackhawks, he surrendered four goals and made 16 saves before getting the hook in the second intermission.

Collin Delia made nine saves in a mop up role.
