In Dallas Saturday, Ben Bishop made 35 saves to help the Stars move into a third place tie in the Central Division with the Minnesota Wild with a 3-2 win over the St Louis Blues in overtime.
Jamie Benn struck for the game-winner in the extra session with just under two minutes left in the session.
“We obviously don’t want to be coming back in too many of these games,” Benn said, “but I like the way we’re finding ways to stick with it.”
Benn’s goal broke a long drought for him.
“This is four out of the last five games he’s played really, really well,” Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock said. “He’s dialed in, and he’s playing hard. He’s playing physical. He’s getting into the scoring areas.”
Alexander Radulov and Tyler Pitlick had the Stars’ goals in regulation.
Despite the loss, the Blues are still in the thick of the playoff race and trail the second wild card spot by just one point.
“I feel like a lot of times we go into a shell and we just sort of hope to hang on in these situations where that’s not the right way to do it,” Blues head coach Mike Yeo said. “You’ve got to keep defending, but you’ve got to do it aggressively. We need more of a killer instinct.”
Jaden Schwartz and Ivan Barbashev had the St Louis goals.
The injury bug bit the Blues in the third period with Scottie Upshall and Jay Bouwmeester leaving the game.
“It’s not ideal, but injuries happen throughout the year, different times. Guys go down. You’ve got to find a way to step up,” Schwartz said.

Carter Hutton made 31 saves in taking the loss.
“We’ll take one point over nothing, but it’s still not good enough. We’re chasing guys in the standings. We needed two,” Hutton said after the loss.
