Stars extend Oilers woes in 6-3 win

In Dallas Saturday afternoon, the Stars’ Ben Bishop made 18 saves and and Dallas scored on their first two shots on goal in a 6-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Bishop got the win after the Stars pulled started Kari Lehtonen who was ineffective in giving up three goals on 13 shots.

“I think [Lehtonen] saves us a lot in that first period,” the Stars’ Tyler Pitlick said. “So I think it was kind of sending a message that we need to get going, and we did.”

Six different skaters struck for Dallas goals in the win.

After falling behind by two goals, the Oilers rallied to tie it at 2-2.

Drake Caggiula scored twice and Connor McDavid scored once for the Oilers; McDavid tied the game at 2-2 in the first and then took a 3-2 lead before the Stars rallied.

“They stuck with it a little bit longer than we did, scored some ugly goals, but those all count,” Oilers head coach Todd McLellan said. “As a result, we’re on the losing end.”

Antoine Roussel, Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov,  Devin ShoreJason Spezza s and Radek Faksa had the Dallas goals.

“I looked at our body language, fourth game in six nights, and I just felt I had to give us every chance to win the hockey game,” Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said after Roussel was moved to the top line for the gamel. “I didn’t like our energy. At the start, we looked tired. We looked lethargic.”

Dallas improved to 10-9-1 after a ending a three-game skid.

“Man, playing with [Radulov] and [Benn] is a great experience. Every time we got a chance to play with those guys we just ramp up the intensity, play simple, and go to the net and good things happen, and that happened tonight,” Roussel said after the move to the top line.

Cam Talbot made 15 saves in the loss.

Edmonton dropped to 7-11-2 with the loss and continue to be mired in an inconsistent pattern of play.

“This was a strange game in my opinion. The first two shots go in. We got the start we wanted, we played exceptionally well, we were pressing,” McLellan said after the loss. “When they score on their first two shots, that puts you behind the eight ball, and when you haven’t won a lot, you’re concerned about how the team will respond, and we responded real well. We came back, we pressed and pushed, and then it got away from us a little bit later in the game. The [fifth and sixth goals] that we gave up, we’re gambling a little bit. We have to at that point in the game.”
