PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers broke out on a goal from Sean Couturier in the fist period.
They then went to sleep and permitted the Dallas Stars to walk and skate and do whatever they wanted in a 4-1 win for the visitors.
“If you look at the shots, they were probably 9-1, 10-1 (in Philadelphia’s favor) at one point, then they had a push where they scored two goals,” Couturier said. “But I guess we still had chances before that. We didn’t score, and I thought the last two periods we controlled the play. We just couldn’t score, and every chance they would get, they’d score. We have to stay focused for 60 minutes.”
Corey Perry had a goal and three points in the win for Dallas.
“It hasn’t been easy. We’ve been in a lot of hockey games, but we’ve kind of kicked ourselves in the foot a few times,” Perry said. “Tonight, we stuck with it, we found a way. … We found a way to win. It doesn’t matter if it’s ugly.”
Ben Bishop made 38 saves to get the win for the Stars who stopped a five-game losing streak.
“It was a great team effort. I thought we earned that,” Stars head coach Jim Montgomery said. “I know we gave up a lot of shots, but according to our statistics that we personally keep, we only gave up three chances in the third. … And of course [goalie Ben Bishop] was awesome.”
Esa Lindell and Roope Hintz also scored for the Stars.
“That was a tough game in a tough building against a good team,” Dallas’ Jamie Benn said. “… We got it done, Bishop played great. Two points is all we really wanted, we don’t really care how we did it. We got these two points, and we’re going to move on here.”
Miro Heiskanen added an empty net goal to seal it for Dallas.

Carter Hart made 12 saves in the loss, the third straight for Philadelphia.
“You look at the scoring chances and the shots, obviously we had quite a bit more than they did, and there’s some things to like about that,” said Philadelphia forward James van Riemsdyk. “… We’re going to have to find a way to generate more goals because obviously, again, when you score one goal, you’re not going to win too many games.”
