Stars end skid with OT win over Flyers

Skidding into the final games of the season, the Dallas Stars were on an eight-game losing streak before defeating the visiting Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday, 3-2, in overtime.

Alexander Radulov struck with 40 seconds gone in the extra session to give the Stars some hope as they chase down a wild card spot in the Western Conference.

“It’s huge for us,” Radulov said. “We’ve just got to take them one by one and don’t look back and just play with everything we’ve got.”

Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves to pick up the win for the Stars who improved to 39-30-8.

“I think it gives us confidence,” Lehtonen said. “It’s our job to go out there and play our hearts out, and we need to just keep doing that.”

Radek Faksa and Brett Ritchie struck for the Dallas goals.

“So, we live to fight another day. We’ve got to go win a road game, and that’s the players attitude — one day at a time,” Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock said after the win.

Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny scored for the Flyers who still hold the first card spot in the Eastern Conference but cannot afford to be taking the loser’s points.

“It’s frustrating, playing hard all 60 and coming up short. Just don’t get too frustrated and keep playing,” Provorov said after the loss.

Petr Mrazek made 20 saves in taking the loss.

“We had lots of chances, lots of opportunities,” Mrazek said. “I think this time of the year we have to get those bounces on our side.”
