Stars end losing skid to Aeros, 3-1

CEDAR PARK, Texas – Texas defeated the Aeros 3-1 Saturday night in front of 6,544 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars left wing Brandon Segal scored the game-winning goal and finished with an assist to lead the Texas attack. Center Aaron Gagnon and defenseman Philip Larsen each tallied two assists on the night, as Texas ended a six-game losing skid to Houston.  Stars goalie Tyler Beskorowany (6-5-1) stopped 29 shots as Houston outshot Texas 30-25. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus and right wing Greg Rallo also scored as Texas pulled within two points of second place in the West Division. Houston left wing Jon DiSalvatore scored the Aeros lone goal. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (15-13-3) stopped 23 of 25 shots for the loss.
 
The Stars grabbed a 1-0 lead at 8:14 in the first period as defenseman Maxime Fortunus scored the first goal of the night, his fourth of the year. Forwards Brandon Segal and Aaron Gagnon each provided an assist on the play. The Aeros quickly tied it up at 10:33 with a goal by right wing Jon DiSalvatore. Forwards Patrick O’Sullivan and Brandon Buck helped set up DiSalvatore’s 18th goal of the season to round out the first period of play with a 1-1 tie.
 
Texas recaptured the lead at 6:40 of the second period with a power-play goal from Brandon Segal. Segal scored off the rebound with assists from Aaron Gagnon and defenseman Philip Larsen, marking Segal’s seventh goal of the year and the 2-1 tally.
 
Texas right wing Greg Rallo notched an empty-net goal with just 23 seconds remaining in the third period. Defenseman Philip Larsen assisted on Rallo’s 21st goal of the season to lock in a 3-1 victory.
