In Columbus, Jake Oettinger made 29 saves, and the Dallas Stars defeated the Blue Jackets, 2-1, on Sunday, after penalties.
Five of those saves came in overtime.
“We know we’ve had some bad breaks in overtime this year,” Oettinger said. “It’s just the way it goes, but to get the one tonight is huge, feels great, and just a great road win.”
Joe Pavelski scored the Stars’ only goal in regulation, the goal gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 14:28 of the first period.
“He (Oettinger) made some big saves,” Pavelski said. “Just solid, kind of like he’s been all year.”
The Jackets’ Zach Werenski tied the game and forced extra time at 6:29 of the third period.
“We created plenty of offense, but in the end, it just wasn’t enough,” Werenski said. “We’re definitely hitting our stride. This weekend was a great step forward for the rest of the year.”
Alexander Radulov had the only goal in the skills portion of the evening’s affair.
“It’s hard to come back after three, four weeks off,” Radulov said. “I basically never skated with the team. Just skated by myself. It’s just hard to come back in because we don’t have a lot of practices, just games.”
Joonas Korpisalo made 34 saves in the loss.
“I thought late in the second and even in the third we played our best minutes, multiple scoring chances,” Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella said. “We ended up with four or five scoring chances. We hold them to one (chance) in the third. I liked how we progressed during the game.”
