In Raleigh, the Dallas Stars picked up their first win over the Hurricanes on Saturday.
Jake Oettinger made 41 saves to earn the 3-2 win.
“He’s mature beyond his years,” Dallas head coach Rick Bowness said. “When you’re that confident in your abilities you want to play. Nothing is going to rattle him at this point.”
The teams were tied 2-2 in the third when Tanner Kero potted the game-winner.
“It’s fun when they’re coming at you,” Oettinger said. “I love to play against the best players in the world, and I think they have some of those guys over there. To measure where I’m at is always super fun, especially against a team like that. The guys did such a great job in front of me tonight.”
Dougie Hamilton and Haydn Fleury were the Canes’ strikers.
“We played hard and played well,” Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “Give them credit; we know the pucks are getting to the net by them. I can’t fault our guys. That’s a good effort from start to finish. If we come with that effort most nights we’re going to be rewarded.”
Keto scored early in the third period for the elad.
“We just wanted to be hard on the puck and [Robertson] made a great play to just walk out of the corner,” Kero said. “Luckily I was all alone in front.”
Andrew Cogliano scored in the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
“We do that quite a bit, where you drive off the wall and try to get to the net,” said. “I’ve probably done that 100 times this year, so it’s nice to tip one in. A big goal for the team, just to get a good start.”
Jamie Benn potted a power-play goal late in the middle frame to tie the game, 2-2, after after the Canes had taken a lead in the second period.
“I’ll tell you who did an incredible job tonight: Jamie Benn,” Bowness said. “He was great on the bench. He’s done a great job leading that third and fourth line. They want to chip in because they see their leader busting his butt and doing all the things you need to do to win.”
Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves in the loss.
