Stars down Rampage, 5-4, in OT

CEAR PARK, Texas  – The San Antonio Rampage (14-11-7-0) rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period, but fell to the Texas Stars (16-13-2-2) 5-4 in overtime in front of 4,752 at the Cedar Park Center on Tuesday night. Borna Rendulic tallied two goals, earning the First Star of the Game, and Joey Hishon finished with two assists.

The Rampage started off quick, getting a goal from Rendulic just 1:05 into the game, marking the 22nd goal this season that the Rampage have scored in the first nine minutes of play. The Stars answered shortly after, as Travis Morin dropped a pass back for Stephen Johns, who put the puck past Roman Will to even the score at one.Texas Stars Logo

A costly turnover by the Rampage led to the second goal of the night for Texas. Morin picked up the puck at the blue line and skated in uncontested for the tally, giving the Stars a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

San Antonio scored the equalizer on the power play just over three minutes into the middle stanza, as Reid Petryk’s backhand shot beat Maxime Lagace. Texas found the back of the net before the period ended with Mattias Backman giving the Stars another one-goal lead at the break.

Morin scored his second of the night to extend the Stars’ lead to two goals, their biggest lead of the night, at the 2:40 mark of the final frame, scoring a shorthanded goal on an odd-man rush down the ice. Dennis Everberg and Rendulic each scored within two minutes of each other midway through the period to knot the game at four and send the game to overtime.

The Stars got a power-play goal, their first on five opportunities with the man advantage, from Greg Rallo with 1:44 remaining in the extra frame to secure a 5-4 win.

The Silver and Black finished 2-for-4 on the power play, and Will made 32 saves on 37 shots.
