Stars double-up Flames, 4-2 Stars lead series 2-1

In Dallas, Joe Pavelski’s second goal of the came off the power in the third period to give the Stars a 3-2 lead on Saturday night over the visiting Calgary Flames.

Roope Hintz added a late empty net goal to make the final, 4-2.

“Elite athletes man, they find a way to rise to the occasion,” Dallas coach Rick Bowness said. “Joe came up big, but again, it’s always around the net. There’s a timing to get there. There’s a timing anticipating the shot. You can’t get there late, you can’t get there early, there’s a timing with that. Obviously, he has it down pat.”

The victory gives the Stars a 2-1 series lead over the Flames.

“It’s another step,” Pavelski said. “There was a lot of effort out there tonight from up and down the lineup. Lot of physicality, guys hanging in, taking checks, making plays, giving checks. It was a competitive game. Our group was very competitive, and I like that.”

Jake Oettinger made 39 saves in the Dallas win.

Calgary took a 2-1 in the middle frame off goals from Trevor Lewis and Elias Lindholm .

“I talked to the players this morning about after the whistles,” Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. “You’ve got to go whistle to whistle, that’s the bottom line. That’s where the game’s played, not after the whistle.”

Radek Faksa scored to give the Stars a 1-0 lead in the first period.

“Our group still feels really good, really confident in our ability,” Calgary forward Blake Coleman said. “We win one game, we have home ice back, and that’s the goal coming in here. There’s no panic in our room, we have a lot of guys who have been here in these situations. Like I said, it’s seven games for a reason.”

Oettinger made a save off a Calgary breakaway late in the third period to preserve the 3-2 lead.

“I was just trying to get out there and take away some ice,” Oettinger said. “I felt like he didn’t have room to make a move, so I thought he was going to shoot. Thankfully I made the save.”

Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves in the Flames loss.
