Stalock helps Chicago to 2-1 win over Predators Late goal spoils shutout bid

In Nashville, the Chicago Blackhawks scored a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.

Alex Stalock made 35 saves in the Chicago win.

Chicago improved to 24-38-6 on their second straight win.

“I thought it was a good team performance again,” Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. “[Stalock] was real solid in the net. They enjoy him because they know he battles, so they really battle for him. It was a fun night for him.”

Lukas Reichel scored in the first period to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead, the goal came with 47 seconds left in the stanza.

“The goal was a little lucky,” Reichel said. “It could be a nicer goal, but it doesn’t matter how.”

The e Predators dropped to 34-25-7 after having a three-game win streak snapped.

“We’ve got a really young group, and it seemed tonight like we didn’t have the energy, the normal energy and competitiveness that we’ve been playing with, and execution,” Nashville coach John Hynes said. “We’ve had much more energy and spark to our game. Tonight, guys were working, but we just didn’t have it, and some of that comes down to the execution on the chances.”

Chicago pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the third period when Joey Anderson  scored at 8:01.

“We played good,” Reichel said. “Over 60 minutes, we played a solid game, good defensively. They are a good team. They got their chances. [Stalock] was unbelievable today again and helped us a lot.

Stalock missed a shutout with 25 seconds left in the game when Nashville’s Roman Josi  scored to make it 2-1.

“Obviously it’s a disappointing loss,” said Josi, the Predators captain. “Every point is huge right now. But we have a massive game coming up Saturday. It’s a quick turnaround. We’ve got to look at this [game] tonight, but after that, we’ve got to forget about it and look forward to Saturday.”
