Spitfires Win 7th Straight, 5-2 over Saginaw

The Spitfires were victorious on Saturday night in Saginaw with a 5-2 win and their 7th straight. The team was powered by Christopoulos scoring twice and Smith with a goal and an assist.

In the first period, the Spitfires took flight just 23 seconds in. Christopoulos scored his 34th of the season from Abraham for an early Spitfire lead. Just 5 minutes later the Spitfires doubled their lead. Greentree got the puck back to Dionicio at the point, he made a nice move to get around the oncoming forward before roofing his 10th of the season. Late in the period, the Spitfires would extend their lead to 3-0 after the Spirit failed to clear the puck from the front of the net and Christopoulos scored his 2nd goal of the night.

In the second period, there was not a whole lot going on. A lot of neutral zone play for both teams as they looked for the games next goal. With just 4 minutes left in the period, Greentree would score his 24th of his rookie season and give the Spitfires a 4-0 lead. The Spitfires had a 21-17 shot advantage after two periods.

In the third period, the Spirit would score just a minute and a half in to make it a 4-1 game. Just over the halfway mark the Spirit would score again to make it a 2 goal deficit 4-2. The Spitfires would respond just over a minute later as Colton Smith would snipe his 20th of the season to make it a 5-2 lead. With under 9 minutes to go, the Spitfires would hold off the Spirit attack and win by a score of 5-2.

The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday Feb 16th when the Firebirds come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
