WINDSOR, ON. The Spitfires took care of the Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon winning 6-3.
In the first period, it was the Frontenacs who got on the board first. It was Arcuri’s 12th of the season for the Fronts. The Spitfires would respond 6 minutes later on the powerplay courtesy of Michael Renwick with his 6th of the season. Maggio and Christopoulos had assists on the goal. The period ended in a 1-1 tie while the Frontenacs were outshooting the Spitfires 12-7.
In the second period, both teams offense went to work. Kingston would score just 34 seconds into the period to take a 2-1 lead. Just two minutes later, Miedema would respond with his 3rd of the season from Jodoin and Hebek. With under 7 minutes to play in the period, Hebek would score his first career OHL goal to give the Spitfires a 3-2 lead. The Frontenacs would responded on the powerplay to tie the game at 3 just a few minutes later. Late in the period, Christopoulos would find the puck on the backdoor and shoot it off the post and in for the go ahead goal. The Spitfires had a 4-3 lead after 2 periods of play.
In the third period, the Spitfires would add two more goals from Maillet with his 6th and Maggio’s 10th to cap off a 6-3 win.
The Spitfires went 2-1 over the weekend with all games ending in a 6-3 score.
The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday as the Peterborough Petes make their first visit to the WFCU Centre in 3 years. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
