Spinner, Olofsson, Shaw, and Oldham receive weekly USHL honors

CHICAGO – The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM Hockey player awards for the 22nd week of the 2014-15 USHL regular season.

Winners include Steven Spinner of the Omaha Lancers and Fredrik Olofsson of the Chicago Steel, named co-recipients of CCM Forward of the Week; Hayden Shaw of the Waterloo Black Hawks, named CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Kris Oldham of the Omaha Lancers, selected as CCM Goaltender of the Week.USHL new black

Steven Spinner, F, Omaha Lancers:  The forward recorded five points (4g, 1a) and posted a plus-four rating to lead the Lancers to a pair of weekend victories.  He equaled a USHL career high with three points (2g, 1a) in Friday’s 7-1 victory over Team USA, including scoring the game-winning goal.  The 19-year-old followed up with another two-goal performance in Saturday’s 5-1 win against the Fargo Force.  It was the first two multi-goal games of his USHL career.  The 2014 NHL Draft pick of the Washington Capitals ranks third in scoring on the Lancers with 28 points (14g, 14a) through 43 games this season.  Spinner is a product of Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota and will play collegiate hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Fredrik Olofsson, F, Chicago Steel:  The 18-year-old had a six-point weekend (4g, 2a) as the Steel won two of three games.  He netted a goal in Friday’s 3-2 win against the Green Bay Gamblers.  Playing his 100th USHL career game on Saturday, he had a USHL career high four points (2g, 2a), including the game-winning goal, in the 5-3 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks.  He also equaled a game high with a plus-four rating.  Olofsson rounded out the weekend with another goal in Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Madison Capitols.  The 2014 NHL Draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks is currently tied for 10th in USHL scoring with 45 points (22g, 23a) through 41 games.  The product of the Colorado Thunderbirds youth program is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Hayden Shaw, D, Waterloo Black Hawks:  The defenseman produced six points (1g, 5a) and a plus-six rating in leading the Black Hawks to a pair of wins.  He dished out a USHL career high three assists and equaled a game high plus-four rating in Friday’s 6-2 win over the Sioux City Musketeers.  Shaw followed up with another three-point effort (1g, 2a) which included the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 4-2 victory against the Bloomington Thunder.  The 18-year-old is riding a five-game point streak (1g, 9a) and currently ranks tied for fourth among USHL defensemen with 28 points (2g, 26a) through 29 games this season.  His 26 assists are tied for 15th overall in the League.  The product of Woodbury High School in Minnesota is committed to the University of North Dakota.

Kris Oldham, G, Omaha Lancers:  The goaltender posted a 1.00 goals-against-average and .953 save percentage in leading the Lancers to a pair of victories and extending their home win streak to five games.  He turned away 18 shots in Friday’s 7-1 win against Team USA and then followed up with a 23-save effort in the 5-1 victory over the Fargo Force on Saturday.  He was also key for the Lancers successfully killing off 10-of-11 shorthanded situations during the weekend.  The 17-year-old has posted a 14-4-2 record this season and currently ranks seventh among League goaltenders with a 2.51 GAA.  Oldham is a native of Anchorage, Alaska and spent time in his home state with the Alaska All Stars youth program and Kenai River (NAHL) prior to his time in the USHL.  It is the third time he has earned USHL weekly honors.  He is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
