On Thursday, April 20, the Petes hosted the Ottawa 67’s for game four of their best of seven Eastern Conference Semi-Final series. The Petes looked to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the league’s number one seed with a win in game four on home ice. This came after a 3-2 game three win on Tuesday night on a late third period goal by Brennan Othmann. The Petes improved to 6-1 (3-0 at home) this postseason with Tuesday’s win. Fans for tonight’s game were once again encouraged to wear white to “white out” the PMC.

The game saw a fan take home a record 50/50 jackpot of $9,668 in honour of longtime Petes volunteer and Booster Club founding member, Betty Nelson. A portion of the proceeds from tonight’s 50/50 will be donated in Betty’s name, courtesy of the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council.
The Petes once again came out flying to start the game and were all over Ottawa early in the first. They would force a couple great scoring chances, but wouldn’t be able to beat Max Donoso early. The Petes continued to shutdown Ottawa’s offence in the period, something that’s been a game changer this series. They would hold the 67’s to only four shots in the period, while getting 11 of their own.
The Petes would finally break through at the beginning of the second. One minute into the middle frame, Brennan Othmann tipped home a Shawn Spearing shot to put the Petes up 1-0. The goal extended Othmann’s point streak to five games, putting up six points over that time. The Petes would continue to put on the pressure, not giving up a shot in the first five minutes. Just over seven minutes into the period, Chase Stillman jumped on a rebound for his first of the playoffs to extend Peterborough’s lead to 2-0. The 67’s would get a goal back on the powerplay with a minute left, but the Petes still took a 2-1 lead into the third, leading 23-12 in shots.
The third period would see Ottawa battle hard to find an equalizer, but the Petes would be too much and overwhelm the 67’s offence once again. Owen Beck added an empty netter with 40 seconds left to seal the 3-1 victory, putting the Petes up 3-1 on the league’s number one seed heading back to Ottawa.
Shawn Spearing led the way for the Petes, picking up three assists on the night. Brennan Othmann, Chase Stillman, and Owen Beck all scored, while Avery Hayes, J.R. Avon, and Brian Zanetti added assists. Michael Simpson stopped 19/20 to improves his 2023 playoff record to 7-1.
The Petes travel to Ottawa on Saturday for game five of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final against the Ottawa 67’s. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Fans can catch the game on OHL Live, YourTV Peterborough or Freq 90.5.
