It was the sixth straight win for the Isles.
“He’s been really solid,” Islanders coach Patrick Roy said. “What I love right now is it looks easy. I think when a goalie is on top of his game that’s the situation. … His reads are great. He’s moving well side to side and playing with confidence.”
It was the second straight shutout the Flyers have suffered.
“We’re trying,” Philadelphia forward Travis Konecny said. “We’re getting some good looks. Obviously we’ve got to get some more traffic to the net. But also sometimes when we are there, the bounces are maybe just going the wrong way for us. We’re pushing hard, guys are trying.”
After a scoreless first period, the Islanders hit twice in the middle frame for a 2-0 lead.
Simon Holmstrom opened the scoring early in the second period for the 1-0 lead.
Marc Gatcomb pushed the lead to 2-0 with just over three minutes left in the period.
The Flyers sagged after the second goal.
“It’s two defensemen … the onus is on them to make sure they are surveying the play before they change,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “I think that’s a big play tonight. We’re down 1-0 and we’re trying to score, their goaltender is playing very well. We can’t give them something free on a bad change.”
Kyle Palmieri snapped a 15-goal drought with a strike midway through the third period for the 3-0 final count.
“I was happy to see him score,” Roy said. “You always want … especially a guy like ‘Palmsy,’ he’s a warrior for us. He plays hard every night and he had chances before and couldn’t bear down on those ones before. To see him score tonight was a nice one.”
Ivan Fedotov made 25 saves in the loss.
