ROMFORD, UK – Romford Raiders stormed to a 9-1 win over the Bristol Pitbulls before snow forced the postponement of Sunday’s home game against Slough ENL Jets. Juraj Huska (4), Danny Marshall (4), Matt Turner (3), AJ Smith (3) and Jason Buckman (3) all registered multi-point games as Raiders, missing Andrius Kaminskas, JJ McGrath and Shaun Wallis, made their depth count against a leg-weary Pitbulls side. Despite the lopsided final scoreline, Steve Osman’s early powerplay tally and Bristol’s first-intermission lead had threatened an upset at Frogmore Street as Raiders chase the nine wins required to claim the English National League South Division One title. But goals from Huska, Marshall and Smith gave Raiders a 3-1 lead at the second interval, before a steady stream of third-period tallies put the result beyond doubt. Huska’s four points pushed him above the 100-point mark for the season, making him the first player to hit three figures across the league this campaign. After a nine-hour journey home from Bristol on Saturday night, and with significant snowfalls into the morning, the decision was made to postpone Sunday’s home game against Slough Jets to March 11th. A statement on the Raiders official website said: “Because of the current weather problems, the prospect of worsening conditions later today and the potential health and safety (and travelling) issues all of that brings, we have reluctantly had to postpone today’s scheduled ENLS1 match at Romford. Provided we obtain league sanction, both clubs have agreed the fixture will be rescheduled for Sunday, March 11th. We are grateful to the Slough Jets ENL organisation for their co-operation.” Raiders travel to the Isle Of Wight on Saturday for ENL action. Contact the author – alex.nunn@prohockeynews.com
