SLOUGH, UK – Slough Jets Head Coach Slava Koulikov has inked a deal to bring Slovakian Juraj Senko to the Jets for the 12/13 season. The 27 year old defenceman completes the non EIHA trained quota for the Jets this season and comes to the Hangar having spent last season with EPL rivals Telford Tigers.
Learning his hockey in his native Slovakia playing for MsHK Zilina Juraj Senko was rewarded for a promising senior and junior season by representing his country at the World U20 Junior Championships in 2003/04.
Senko spent 2004/05 between MsHK Zilina and HK 95 Povazska Bystrica before returning to MsHK Zilina for 2005/06. 2006/07 was spent in France with Dijon and 2007/08 was spent split back in Slovakia and in Hungary. One further season with Dijon in 2008/09 preceded his heading to the UK.
In 2009/10 Senko made his UK debut with Solway Sharks in the ENIHL (now NIHL) scoring 22+43 for 106 penalty minutes in 38 appearances and earning him a recall for 2010/11. Making 21 appearances in his second season at Solway he scored 28 more points for just 16 penalty minutes.
In 2011/12 Jurak Senko came to the attention of the Telford Tigers who signed him up for his EPIHL debut. In 53 appearances at the Shropshire team he scored 7 times and assisted 20 for 44 penalty minutes.
After capturing Senko’s signature Slava Koulikov said; “I believe to have a chance to challenge for the league title this year you have to have consistency! That’s why we are going to go with 2 import defencemen this year. This is something I have been thinking about in the past and was how it worked when I played in Manchester last year! We are looking for stability at the back, Juraj has already played in this league last year and he had to defend a lot, he knows the way EPL is played and will fit in quick in our structure. He is a very good guy and another player who plays for the team. He knows his role this year and if he sticks with it he will be a big part of our success this season.”
Juraj Senko said on joining the Jets; “I’m glad to be a part of a team like Slough Jets, it was the hardest team I played against last season, and also it will be great to play for play offs champions. I think Slava and Adam have built a very good team from the right players and I will do everything to help my team win some trophies this season.”
Koulikov concluded; “Now that’s our team complete I am happy with where we are and can’t wait till next week to get started!!!”
Juraj stands at 6 foot 2 and weighs 181lbs. He shoots left handed.
