Sissons’ hat trick leads Preds over Colorado, 4-1

On Wednesday night in Denver, the Nashville Predators improved to 12-3-0 on the season and rode Colton Sissons‘ hat trick to a 4-1 win over the Avalanche.

Sissons has success against the Avs over his career.

“Everybody has a team or two they have success against and feel good against,” Sissons said. “Fortunately for me it’s a team in our division. They are always tough games, like playoff games, and I like playing in those games. Maybe that’s it.”

Pekka Rinne made 24 saves to get the win for the Preds.

Matt Calvert potted the only goal for the Avs in the loss.

“It felt great to contribute offensively,” Calvert said. “I was trying too hard, I think. It was a great shot by [Girard] and I got a stick on it. Sometimes you need the first one to go in like that.”

Colorado dropped to 7-5-3 in the loss and have lost four straight, 0-3-1.

The Avs had two goals waved on video review.

“Tape-to-tape passes we’re throwing into guys’ skates even when there aren’t players in-between them, going offside on goals, that’s part execution, slows down our pace, slows down the tempo of our game,” Avs head coach Jared Bednar said.

“The two goals getting called back to me is just another aspect of our lack of execution.”

Ryan Hartman scored an empty net goal to close out the scoring.

Varlamov made 30 saves in the loss.

“They are a very good hockey team and I think we put ourselves in a hole there early. We didn’t play well enough from the drop of the puck. We spotted them way too much, let’s just say that. You know, we came back, we put some pressure on them, but too little, too late,” Colorado’s Ian Cole said after the loss.
