Jakub Sindel netted the crucial game-winning goal as Genting Casino Coventry Blaze beat Dundee Stars 2-1 at the Skydome in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.
After Saturday night’s last-gasp heartache at Sheffield Steelers, it was Blaze’s turn to leave it late as Sindel scored with just 75 seconds remaining.
John Dolan had given Stars the lead at 3.11 but captain Ashley Tait levelled at 27.19 with his sixth goal of the season.
Blaze defenceman Craig Cescon and Stars’ Ryan Grimshaw fought at 56.10 before Sindel struck the deciding goal – and his seventh this term – to hand his side two massive points.
The win leaves Blaze in ninth place, four points ahead of Stars and just one point adrift of Edinburgh Capitals in the final play-off position.
Coach Chuck Weber said: “It was a big relief. We have had a lot of one-goal losses so it was good to flip that tonight.
“We gave up an early goal and I did not like our first period. Dundee play a sit-back style and we took a little time to adjust.
“But we played a lot better in the second and the third, we created a lot of chances and the hockey gods were on our side with the winning goal – we have not had a lot of puck luck.
“To get the two points and not to give Dundee a point was huge. We found a way to win.”
Defenceman Mike Egener managed just two shifts and will be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s home clash with Nottingham Panthers (7.30pm face-off) when Ryan O’Marra will be back from suspension.
