After a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Sudbury Wolves in game one last night in front of a packed house, the Peterborough Petes were right back in action for game two at the PMC. The Petes were looking to ride off of the momentum from their victory in game one and come out to an early lead on Friday night. Michael Simpson would get his second straight start for the Petes, after stopping 26/28 for his first career playoff win in game one.

The atmosphere was electric in the PMC as the puck hit the ice to begin period one. Both teams were flying early as they both knew what was on the line. Unfortunately for the Petes, for the second game in a row it would be the Wolves who would strike first to make it 1-0 halfway through the frame. The Petes would press for the remainder of the period, but wouldn’t be able to put a puck past Kevyn Brassard. The Wolves would go into the break up 1-0, with the Petes leading 17-15 in shots.
After back-to-back penalty calls, the Petes found themselves on a two man advantage five minutes into the period. Tucker Robertson would waste no time burying a Brennan Othmann rebound on the powerplay to tie the game up at 1-1. Both Brassard and Michael Simpson would shut the door after the goal, leading to a 1-1 game heading into the third. The Petes continued their lead in the shot department 36-30.
It was a dream start to the third for the Petes. Just 14 seconds into the frame, Brennan Othmann leaped on a loose puck and batted it past Brassard to give the Petes the lead. The Wolves would throw everything they had at the Petes, desperate for an equalizer. Michael Simpson proved to be unbeatable, making save after save to keep the Wolves off of the board. After a tense final two minutes, the horn sounded and the Petes would take a 2-0 series lead with a 2-1 win.
Michael Simpson led the way for the Petes, stopping 40/41 for his second playoff win. Tucker Robertson and Brennan Othmann each had a goal and an assist, while Connor Lockhart and Brian Zanetti each added an assist.
The Petes are back in action on Tuesday, April 4, when they take on the Wolves in Sudbury for game three. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can catch the game on YourTV Peterborough or Freq 90.5.
