GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – The Adirondack Thunder put together their fifth shutout of the season as they defeated the Norfolk Admirals by a 1-0 final score on Tuesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Kent Simpson turned aside all 31 shots he faced to earn his third career ECHL shutout.
Adirondack got the scoring started off of a tremendous individual effort from forward Peter MacArthur at the 10:37 mark of the opening period. After Norfolk netminder Nic Riopel denied MacArthur’s original backhanded effort, the veteran forward collected his own rebound, spun around and fired a low shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. MacArthur’s linemates, Michael Kirkpatrick and Greg Wolfe, collected the assists on the play, the team leading 16th of the season for Kirkpatrick.
The second and third periods came and went without a goal as Simpson rejected 16 Norfolk shots over the final two frames. The Edmonton, ALTA native saved his finest effort for last, as he made a right pad save on a Steven Whitney one-timer from the lower right hand circle with just under 10 seconds to play to preserve the 1-0 victory. Riopel turned in an impressive effort of his own, with 18 saves in the latter two stanzas, but came away on the wrong side of the low scoring affair.
The Thunder are back in action on Saturday for the annual Pink in the Rink Night, sponsored by Glens Falls Hospital.
