Signings continue for Deeside

Andy Chappell will rejoin Lol Paul’s roster at The Dragons next season – and the Deeside chief is on the verge of another “groundbreaking” signing.

Forward Chappell has been a Flintshire regular since the start of his senior career in 2000, bagging 61 NIHL points over the last three seasons.

The 30-year-old’s return to Chester Road marks another step towards the completion of Paul’s first roster under new owners, Red Hockey.Deeside dragons logo

And he is delighted with his latest capture.

Paul said: “Andy Chappell is a guy who represents the heart and soul of this club. He loves playing in Deeside and that shows in his career so far.

“He’s put up consistently high numbers every season and remained faithful to The Dragons. That sort of attitude means a lot to the players, the supporters and myself.
“Andy will be part of a line-up that I want to challenge the top teams in the Laidler Conference. I am still deciding the make-up of my lines, but he is going to be an integral part of that.”

The precise nature of Lol Paul’s squad is still a closely guarded secret, as he prepares for the most eagerly-awaited season in recent years.

That process will take a step forward in coming weeks, as he puts the finishing touches to a signing that could be huge for the Flintshire outfit.

He added: “So far this summer, I have been really happy with how the team has come together. Every single guy on the roster is there because I believe they will do the best job for us.

“But there is always room for more, which is why I’m talking to a guy who will be another groundbreaking signing for us. He will be a major signal of our intent.
“I am hoping his experience will rub off on the rest of the team. We have got some excellent players here already, so adding to that list can only be a good thing.”
