MACON, Ga. – The Mississippi RiverKings (22-16-2) were defeated by the Macon Mayhem (24-7-5) 4 to 2 at the Macon Centreplex. The RiverKings fell to fourth place in
the SPHL after Friday night’s loss.
Matt Summers opened the scoring at 8:16 of the first period on a breakaway, beating Brad Barone glove side. Ryan Marcuz tied the game off of a turnover in the slot just 33 seconds later. The teams went to the locker rooms tied 1-1 after twenty minutes of play.
Macon’s Chris Joseph was given a 5-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for elbowing Brant Sherwood at the end of the first period. Mike Grace tallied a power play goal 32 seconds into the next period. Joe Sova earned an assist for setting up the one-timer.
The Mayhem tied the game on a two-on-one chance at 12:51 of the second. Dennis Sicard scored the goal with Mark Rivera taking the primary assist. The score stood at 2-2 going into the third period.
Sicard scored his second goal of the night at 2:26 of the third period. Summers and Rivera both recorded assists on the power play goal. Matt Johnson extended the lead with a goal of off a defensive end turnover at 5:36. The 4-2 victory gave Macon their third win in four games against the RiverKings this season.
Brad Barone (13-10-2) stopped 40 of 44 shots faced in the loss. Macon goaltender Jordan Ruby (14-3-2) made 23 saves in the victory.
