In Los Angeles, the St Louis Blues ended a string of frustrations with a 2-1 shootout win over the Kings Saturday night.

It took seven rounds of the skills competition before Troy Brouwer beat Jonathan Quick for the winner.

“It’s four games in a row now that we have really dug in,” Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. “You get into overtime or extra time and you are going to win some and lose some. We now have played really well for four or five games in a row. We just have to keep it going.”

Anze Kopitar scored for the Kings at the 9:54 mark but Alex Pietrangelo tied it less than three minutes later for the Blues.

“We’ve put a lot of work in and a lot of effort in,” forward David Backes said. “Now we’ve found that second point and it feels like a good reward for a great effort against a team that was rested and really came at us hard. We responded really well.”

Brian Elliott made 26 saves for the win.

Quick was not busy throughout the game and faced only 16 shots, saving 15.

The Blues lost two players to injury including Magnus Paajarvi and Carl Gunnarsson.

“It’s never easy to lose guys,” Pietrangelo said. “But I’m pretty proud of the way, last night, the forwards stepped up after losing Jay and Paul and then tonight, again the D all chipped in.”

There were no updates on the injuries.

“We’ll let you know Monday after practice on everybody,” Hitchcock said. “That part has been a tough weekend for us.”
