Shoot-out loss for Stingrays

Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays registered a three-point weekend in the Elite League after going down 4-3 to Fife Flyers in a shoot-out at Hull Arena.

Carl Lauzon (5.42) and Dominic Osman (14.11 powerplay) twice put Stingrays – on the back of a 3-2 win at leaders Braehead Clan on Saturday – in front only for Jamie Milam (10.57) and Jamie Wilson (27.49) to level it up. Fife Flyers logo

Matt Reber put Flyers ahead for the first time at 52.31 but Jordan Mayer ensured overtime with a game-tying goal with 76 seconds of regulation remaining.

The match moved into a shoot-out with Flyers forward Ned Lukacevic the only successful skater in eight attempts to earn his side the extra point.

Player-coach Omar Pacha said: “One point was not good enough but you have to give credit to Fife, who came in here and played a tough game. They played us hard.

“For the first 20 minutes we kept it simple and were moving the puck quickly and then in the second and for 15 minutes in the third we were trying to do too much and be too individual.

“It is a three-point weekend but at the same time, especially being at home, we have to be better. For the first half of the third period we were not good enough.

“But I am taking nothing away from Fife because I thought they played well and are one of the most under-rated teams in the league.

“Three points was not enough this weekend because Fife got four and we need to catch them in sixth spot. We still need to find that consistency.”
