Sheifele Seals Deal In Shootout Win For Jets

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets were back at home after a successful road trip and were hoping to continue the momentum with a big game against the Los Angeles Kings. The Jets were looking to go over the 500 mark and continue to build on their recent WPG Jets logosuccess. The Jets battled hard and got some timely saves and a couple slick moves proved to be too much for the Kings as the Jets came away with a 3-2 shootout win.

Connor Hellebuyck  started the last five of six games and looks to be the go-to guy in the pipes for Coach Paul Maurice. Hellebuyck stopped 27 of 29 shots and had 2 more stops in the shootout to get the win.

The Jets used a five-minute major to Kyle Clifford who ran rookie Kyle Connor from behind and received a major for boarding. Winnipeg scored two power play goals during the five minutes.

The Kings jumped out to the early lead when Tyler Pearson scored his sixth of the season.

Winnipeg evened things up as Adam Lowry converted a Nic Petan feed for his fourth on the power play. Then Marko Dano got his third on the same power play after some hard work by Lowry.

Tom Gilbert scored his first to tie things at 2-2 in the third before both goaltenders took over making big stops at both ends and both teams got some strong penalty killing to head into extra time.

Chris Thorburn dropped the gloves for the third straight game as he and Kyle Clifford went for a spin to settle the score on the hit to Connor.

In the shootout, the Jets saw some razzle dazzle as Patrik Laine scored on a filthy move to score and then with the final shot Mark Sheifele made a couple moves before ripping home a beauty wrist shot for the win.

Peter Budaj stopped 27 shots for the Kings and continued his strong play after being recalled and thrust into the number one role for LA.

The Jets will welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to town on Tuesday night.

Notes: The Jets recalled Manitoba-native Quinton Howden from the Manitoba Moose as the injury bug continued with Alex Burmistrov out with an upper body injury.
