SHEFFIELD, UK – A short handed Steelers side put in a great performance against SHL side Timra on Saturday at the Bauer Arena, Ice Sheffield.
It was 2 power-play goals from the visitors that separated the sides after 60 minutes in a most encouraging performance.
Steelers went into the game without Robert Dowd, Mark Matheson, Matt Rupert (all injured) and Chris Lawrence, who arrived in the Country on Saturday morning only to find that his equipment hadn’t made the same journey and was on route on a later flight.
Captain Jonathan Phillips only made the first 5 minutes before leaving the game with an injury that makes him a 50-50 doubt ahead of tomorrow’s return game – face off 5pm.
It was a scoreless first period with chances at either end.
Timra hit two power-play goals in the middle session, first Rickard Palmberg (21.25) and then Vilmas Galla (30.12) gave the visitors the 2-0 advantage.
Jackson Whistle again made some great saves as the Steelers battle level was raised off the charts against a speedy, skilled and talented SHL side.
Steelers surprisingly took the game to Timra in the final period, down to just 5 D and 12 forwards and were unlucky not to register.
