QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Losing in their regular season series (1-3-0-1) against the Remparts Shawinigan ended the season on a victorious note signing a 2-1 win against Quebec. With the score tied after first twenty minutes of play, the Cataractes scored the only goal in a dominating second period to win their last confrontation of the regular season in front of 3033 happy fans. Cataractes defenseman Dylan Labbe on shot from blue line scored the goal that made the difference in Shawinigan favor.
Killing a penalty to teammate Aaron Dutra, Quebec was the first team to get on scoreboard. Captain Kurt Etchegary redirected a shot by Adam Erne beating Shawinigan goaltender Marvin Cupper with 7:13 left in the opening period.
Shawinigan came back 52 seconds later tying the score 1-1. Cataractes right winger Christophe Lalonde beat Quebec netminder Zachary Fucale under left arm. For Lalonde it was his 34th goals of the season his 16th on power play.
In a totally dominated second period (20-3) in shot on goal by Shawinigan, the Cataractes were the only team to get on main scoreboard to take the lead for first time in the game.
The shot from defenseman Dylan Labbe from the blue line went through lots of skates finding his way to beat Quebec netminder to his right side at 9:14.
The middle frame ended with a fight between Quebec center Adam Erne and Gabriel Sylvestre.
Quebec began the third period having a chance to tie the game following an additional penalty to Shawinigan center Anthony Beauvillier. Fortunately for Cataractes head coach Martin Bernard his team was able to kill the penalty.
Quebec got two other opportunities to tie the game as they tried to kill penalty to teammate defenseman Ryan Grave. Playing shorthanded Quebec forwards Marcus Cuomo and Massimo Carozza went on a two-on-one breakaway. Quebec center Carozza saw Cataractes netminder making the save.
On a second occasion, Carozza got another chance to go on two-on-one breakaway this time with left winger Guillaume Gauthier. On second chances Carozza missed his shot.
Trailing by one with less than two minutes to play, Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher decided to pull his starting netminder sending a sixth attackers but Marvin Cupper make key save with a pad to preserve his team win.
Quebec will have only four games left on schedule with the next three game will be on home ice ending the 2014-15 regular season on the road. Next Quebec game will be this Friday night hosting the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
