Sharks tie it late, defeat Flyers in OT, 4-3

In San Jose Saturday, Joe Thornton scored late in the third period to to get the Sharks even with the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-3.

It took Timo Meier just 13 seconds to get the over time winner for San Jose in a 4-3 final.

“My goal is to help the team win games and to do as much as I can,” Meier said. “I’m not a numbers guy. I’m not focusing on numbers, only to be the best player I can be.”

For Meier, it was his seocnd goal of the game.

Martin Jones made 22 saves to pick up the win.

Nolan Patrick, Jordan Weal and Jakub Voracek scored for the Flyers.

“I don’t like the way we lost the game tonight and that’s that,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “But we had a lot of guys that battled hard tonight and that part I like. We came into a tough building, we fought for a point. We wanted the next point.”

The Sharks improved to 7-4-3.

Joe Pavelski also scored for the Sharks.

The Flyers fell to 6-7-1 with the loss.

Calvin Pickard made 31 saves in the loss.

“I felt confident coming in tonight. I thought for the most part I was pretty solid, but the work never stops. Back at it tomorrow,” Pickard said.
