Sharks sweep set from Kings

In San Jose, Martin Jones made 42 saves and the Sharks doubled-up the Los Angeles Kings, 4-2, on Wednesday night.

The Sharks won both ends of the two-game set with LA.

“We knew they were huge, huge games,” San Jose’s Brent Burns said. “You want to win at home every game and it’s always just about establishing wins and getting points, so that was good.”

Alex Iafallo and Adrian Kempe were the LA strikers.

“We seem to kind of hang around and play better when we’re playing the teams at the top of our division, which is not a good thing,” LA’s Drew Doughty said. “We need to win these games if we want to [qualify for the] playoffs. Again, no disrespect to San Jose; just they’re a team that I think is more equal to us than a team like Colorado or Vegas.”

Evander Kane struck for two goals.

Kane and Tomas Hertl scored early in the third period to break open a tight 2-1 game and give the4 Sharks breathing room at 4-1.

“That can’t happen in any period, let alone the third,” Doughty said.

Rudolfs Balcers also scored for San Jose, he gave the Sharks an early 1-0 lead.

“We weren’t scoring, we had some chances,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “We got impatient and they stung us for it. It’s a tough lesson to learn.”

Calvin Petersen made 24 saves in the loss.

“When you let a goal in with 12 seconds to go in the second period, you got a 2-0 lead, those are tough and you wonder how’s your team going to come out in the third period,” Sharks head coach Bob Boughner said. “You can say all the right things in the room, but it’s a mentality and we came out and went on the attack. We took the momentum back that we gave them at the end of the period, and I was real happy to see that.”
