Sharks stop Blues in OT

In San Jose, the Sharks needed a goal from Logan Couture in the third period to get even with the St Louis Blues at 2-2, on Monday night.

Evander Kane finished off the game in extra time with a strike for a 3-2 win to the Sharks.

“I was a little ahead of ‘Karl’ and I felt I was all alone there, so I was definitely thinking shot,” Kane said. “I was happy I was able to put it in the back of the net.”

Kane scored with just 41 seconds gone in the session.

Devan Dubnyk made 24 saves to get the win for San Jose. None were bigger than his stop on Ryan O’Reilly just ahead of the Kane winner.

“He just challenged pretty hard and he came out quite a bit,” O’Reilly said. “I just thought I could maybe get around him, but the hands didn’t do what I wanted them to and, yeah, frustrating because now it’s in the back of [our] net. It’s a play I’ve got to be better at. I’ve got to get a shot on net or at least put something on net. It’s a tough one to lose like that.”

Marc-Edouard Vlasic also scored for the home side.

“Birthday (50) or not, obviously we needed a win here,” Sharks head coach Bob Boughner said. “But it was nice. A couple of guys were joking before the game that they would be putting money on the board for my birthday. But it was just a great way that we won, coming from behind against a good team. We had to get that mentality, we talked about it all year, that 2-1, 3-2 mentality, and tonight it was there.”

Niko Mikkola picked up his first NHL goal in the Blues’ loss.

“It was a great trip,” Blues head coach Craig Berube said. “It really is. We got points in every game, which is outstanding. I would have liked to close these last two games out. We didn’t do it. We’ve got to dig down a little bit more and find a way to close these games out.”

Brayden Schenn also scored for St Louis.

Ville Husso. made 17 saves in the loss.
