Sharks slip past Habs, 2-1

In San Jose Friday night, the Sharks picked up two first goals from Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski then held off the Montreal Canadiens in a 2-1 victory.

“We gave them a couple power plays that gave them some legs. They have a dangerous power play and they got one. Once you fall behind, it’s tough to come back, especially in this building. We have to find ways to put the puck in,”  the Canadiens’ Brendan Gallagher said of the Sharks quick 2-0 lead in the first period. San Jose Sharks logo

Martin Jones backstopped San Jose the win with 31 saves.

“He (Jones) did his job,” Pavelski said. “He always does his job. He shows up. We have a lot of confidence in him, and he showed you why tonight. Guys did a good job in front of him, and it was a really good effort I think against a good team.”

Artturi Lehkonen was lone goal scorer for the Habs when they pulled Carey Price on a power play with just over a minute left in regulation.

“Would have been nice to get off to a better start in this building,” Price said. “We ran into another goalie who is playing well.”

Price had 28 saves in the loss.

Burns’ goal was a power play that gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead in the fist.

“Just a good play by [Pavelski],” Burns said. “Obviously shooting against Price you know there’s not many holes. It’s good that one found its way back. I was swinging all night and none of the other ones went in.”
