STOCKTON, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks shutdown the Edmonton Oilers 7-0 in game four, tying the teams at two-apiece, a huge difference from the previous game in which Edmonton had the shut out.
In the first period, Justin Braun took the shot from the blue line towards the net, and was tipped in by Joe Pavelski to put the Sharks on the board. Then, midway through the period, on a power play, when Cam Talbot could not seem to hold onto the puck, Logan Couture wristed the puck past him, from the center circle. The Sharks led 2-0 at the end of the first.
The Sharks scored four more unanswered goals in the second period. Brent Burns’ pass from the point to Patrick Marleau at the top of the circle beat Talbot far side top corner for the goal for another power play goal. A rebound from a shot up the slot, gave Marcus Sorensen the next goal at 9:46. Couture scored his second goal of the night three minutes later, when his shot went in from a pass from the corner.
Late in the period, on yet another power play opportunity, Burns sent a shot from the top of the slot towards the net and Pavelski redirected it to the back of the net. San Jose led 6-0 at the intermission.
One last goal in the third period came off the stick of San Jose’s, David Schlemko. The goal was his first playoff goal, at 6:45.
Martin Jones earned the win in the net with 32 saves, while the Sharks capitalize off four of eight power play chances. The Oilers couldn’t make anything happen, despite four chances.
The two teams will return to Edmonton for game five on Thursday night.
