Sharks rally past Flames for 5-3 win

In San Jose, the Calgary Flames took a 3-1 lead in the middle frame on Tuesday night, and then sat back and watched as the Sharks scored four straight for a 5-3 win.

Tomas Hertl scored the final two goals of the game to complete a hat trick in the win.

“I thought it was a response game for us,” Sharks head coach Bob Boughner said. “Between the second and third we said ‘Look, we’re in the same position we were in last game (a 6-4 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday) and we’ve got to show that we learned from it, and also show some maturity in our game.'”

Adin Hill made 40 saves in the Sharks win.

“I’m just happy we won today because it was a tough game against a really good team,” Hertl said. “We’re in a pretty good spot, but we need every point to stay in the race.”

San Jose improved 14-11-1.

Adam Ruzicka (first NHL goal), Johnny Gaudreau, and Dillon Dube  scored for the Flames.

“Great feeling for me and for my family watching from back home (in Slovakia), but I’m pretty upset that we lost this one,” Ruzicka said.

The Flames dropped to 15-6-5.

Logan Couture and Erik Karlsson had single markers for the Sharks.

“Feels good right now after a tough end to our road trip there,” Couture said. “Both games that we lost on the road trip, we had a sour taste left in our mouths. So down 3-1, it could have gone either way there, and I’m glad we stuck with it.

“[Karlsson’s goal] gave us some energy. Brought some energy back into the building.”

Dan Vladar made 22 saves in the Calgary loss.
