Sharks race past Ducks in 6-2 thrashing

In Anaheim Sunday, the visiting San Jose Sharks were relentless in a 6-2 win over the Ducks.

Aaron Dell backstopped the win with 33 saves.

“Our D-zone coverage was great tonight; forwards helping out as well,” Dell said. “I think we just worked as a full five-man unit all night long.”

The Sharks took a 1-0 lead in the first period goal from Marc-Edouard Vlasic then built the lead to 3-0 in the second period on strikes form Mikkel Boedker and Kevin Labanc.

Rickard Rakell and Ryan Getzlaf scored for the Ducks who had no real response to the Sharks’ push.

“The rest and the legs should have been ours tonight,” Getzlaf said. “They were [playing the second game of] a back-to-back, and we didn’t take advantage of that.”

Boedker scored a second in the third period and Joe Thornton and Melker Karlsson added markers in a three-goal third period.

“We did too much standing around,” Getzlaf said. “The intensity wasn’t there with our legs.”

John Gibson got the start for the Ducks but was pulled after yielded five goals and making just 17 saves.

“Penalties are going to happen throughout games. We’ve got jobs to do, and we lost the special teams tonight,” Getzlaf said after the dismal effort and loss.

Ryan Miller mopped up for Gibson over the last seven plus minutes of action.
